I really enjoy this group from the New Orleans street performer scene...  the Smoking Time Jazz Club

There are so many great bands on the streets on New Orleans, like these.   Did you notice that they have all mastered "the look" which makes them appear to have come out of the bayou to the big city (especially the female singers)?

Joe - YW, I'm so glad you enjoyed them!

Jack - Not a fan of Dixieland, but they're good at what they do and I agree about the look and the attitude.

Shandy,  I wouldn't call these bands "Dixieland",  they are various forms of jazz, R&B, Swamp Pop, and in the case of my third post .. pretty much rock'n'roll with a New Orleans flavor.

To me, this one is Dixieland

Jack - I should have pointed out the one that wasn't Dixieland was good.  The others had too much Dixieland, which, since I don't like it, tends to eat anything else.  Alas, the other sides were country, a genre that's a hard sell for me, and I wasn't convinced that any of those guys could dance, much less that's all they want to do, lol.

Shandy,  it's interesting that you considered that group to be Country ... I would never have tagged them that way.   It's all in your own personal experience and background, I think.

To me, they are a "pop/ballad" group and I can't pick out any Country music sound from listening to them at all.

I would call the first song Pop, and the "Dance" song definitely has a retro disco beat to it. Woulda fit in back in the 70s easy!

So there ya go .. I say Pop/Ballad,  Joe C said the one is disco(ish), and Shandy says Country .. everyones ear is different, huh ?

This a good example of why we often can't agree on what style/genre a song is ... especially with R&B and doowop.    I won't even get into the "what to call this genre of music we love so well" or "how to spell the name"  !
