Great Astros Pitcher died yesterday at 71 (41 years after he suffered that catastrophic, misdiagnosed, career-ending stroke).

Always picture J R in that multi-hued orange/reddish Astros uniform jersey. Would've been a sure-fire HoFer in my estimation.

And after the stroke, he made a series of bad "investment decisions" rendering him homeless for some years before recovering. Really sad story all the way around.

If that happened today-the R word-racism- would really fly.  Some drs said his problem was'mental"
