Yeah, man. You coulda knocked me over with a feather when I saw Ray's photo. Lemme give that some thought. I'm sure there are other examples like that. Good topic (unless Ray is the only one)! Seriously, good topic regardless!

Very good topic, 43, and I'm racking my brain for an example.  I can only come up with "The Stars Are Out Tonight".  Almost everyone thought the group was black.  Some will still argue that they are, but I always knew they were white.  A guy from Jubilee showed me two different pictures of them with the song title at the bottom.

Velvets -- Doctor, another good one.

How about Eddie Cooley & The Dimples "Priscilla" -- thought they were black.

Frankie Ford - Sea Cruise

Bobby Charles - Later Alligator

DDW: Saw the lead singer of the Soul Survivors at a Nader show last week. Definitely not black, but sang all songs by black artists. One hit wonders have to sing at least a couple other songs.

You're right on Eddie& Dimples. Also, the G Clefs weren't white? Wow. Norman Fox -- bi-racial?

G-Clefs  all  black. I have  a nice picture  on sheet music. 3 brothers  and couple other  guys.

Soul Survivors--a  couple   were doo  wop  singers  Italian from  Brooklyn. (Dedications?) Definitely no   blacks  --not sure about  Hispanics.

Fox--as white as can be. Pale.  Jewish.  I know  Norman.

I thought The G-Clefs were White, too, before I saw their photos.  I always knew that the Soul Survivors were Mexican.  they didn't sound even remotely "Ghetto".  I  always thought Eddie Cooley was Black.  So, I wasn't surprised to find out he was.

The O'Kaysions, who sang "I'm a Girl Watcher" sounded Black.  I was shocked to find out they were "White".  Several Black groups sounded "White", because they grew up among "Whites", and spoke that way naturally.  many of the "Blue-Eyed Soul" groups tried to sound "Black", but, to me, most sounded horribly forced, and awful.  To me, so many of them sound as phony as a 3-Dollar bill (Roy Head, Wayne Cochran and Cher all sang with a made-up accent that nobody else in The World spoke, and didn't sound even remotely the way they spoke themselves).  I'm embarrassed to be a member of the same species as theirs.  Johnny Maestro sang with his normal voice and did fine.  A lot of the so-called "White DooWop is excellent, and those guys didn't need to try to "sound Black".

Robb-u beat me to  the O'Kaysions.

How about the Duals--Stickshift--  a black  duet car song.  Instrumental  only.

Ronnie Height--lite skinned black. Thot white.
